Pasi Fasi PuroruOur mid-year concert featuring all the students from Sistema Aotearoa was amazing. Over 300 students took part in this fantastic day which was divided into Act 1 and Act 2!

First there was a concert featuring performances by the  Iriaka, Tupaia and Tuapia Sistema Orchestras in the Sir Noel Robinson Conference Centre. A huge crowd of over 700 family, friends and members of the public packed out the centre. The younger Sistema tamariki looked great in their concert attire and played beautifully and confidently to the very appreciative audience.

While this concert was in progress the Kupe and Tiki orchestras were busy rehearsing with the APO. It was the Kupe orchestra’s first time playing alongside the APO and there was much excitement This is a unique and valuable opportunity for our students to play side-by-side with the APO musicians and to be conducted by David Kay.

As always the students rose to the occasion and they each played 2 pieces. Tiki’s Hoedown by Copeland and a crowd pleasing favourite Mamma Mia opened the concert and the Kupe orchestra played the finale ‘How far I’ll go’ from Moana in which Sistema Student Enyah Talamaivao wowed the crowd with her impressive singing solo in Te Reo and English.! Our three younger orchestras displaying their skill and the two older orchestras playing right alongside the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.
