Auckland Town Hall, Vodafone Events Centre are great concert venues but nothing quite beats playing right in the heart of Otara town mall. We love sharing our music with our community.
On Saturday a small group from the Kupe orchestra put on a great performance at the ‘Our Heart Our Hood’ community day. The Town square was buzzing with excitement – bouncy castles, sausage sizzles, stalls and entertainment. The Otara market was bustling and it was standing room only for the student’s performance.
The tamariki focused beautifully – eyes fixed on Whaea Jess Hindin conducting them, playing and singing enthusiastically and getting lots of applause.
A video of the students playing Kafesi Niue posted on Facebook hit the hearts of the community and reached out globally. Our children are proud to have showcased this special arrangement of this traditional Niuean song – arranged by Sistema Aotearoa tutor William Kingi – attracting ‘likes’ ‘comments’ and ‘shares’ from all over the world.
